Mastering The Art Of Healthy Grocery Shopping On A Budget
Every Saturday my agenda typically includes grocery shopping. It’s a love/hate thing for me. Of course I’d rather be hanging out with the family or playing games, but it’s a must if healthy eating is a priority. In my house we eat breakfast at home everyday. I pack my lunchbox with good for me foods every work day. I cook dinner on most nights. We go out on Saturday for a fun meal and to get my husband out of the cabin fever funk from working at home all week!
Many people believe that healthy eating means expensive grocery bills. It can be, but it certainly does not have to be. I can prepare a super yummy, healthy dinner which provides leftovers for lunch the next day for less than the cost of three value crap meals from the fast food joints down the road. My latest and greatest find is Aldi. If you are fortunate enough to have one of these modest gems of a store in your community you need to check the place out. When I say modest, I mean modest. It’s no super center. There aren’t six types of everything imaginable to choose from. Nope, they pretty much have their own brand of everything which makes selections fast and easy. The prices on everything are fantastic. You can get in and out quickly and do one of those jump and click your heals together movements on your way to your car! If you’re already a shopper here then you know what I’m talking about.
They have a good variety of organic products. If you need gluten free they have some pretty good stuff to choose from. Meat, dairy, frozen foods and pantry staples are the best items to buy here. The produce section is small and can be hit or miss. I shop here first and then hit my backup grocery store for everything else. At least 75% of my grocery list is checked off at Aldi.
Here’s a list of my favorite Aldi staples… Happy shopping!
